Parisian couturier Jean Louis Scherrer started his career with Christian Dior. When the famous designer died in 1957, he left to start his own fashion house. The business flourished and he counted Sophia Lauren, Jackie Kennedy and high profile political wives among his clientele. In 1992, he sensationally left the business, which continued without him for sixteen years before sadly closing its doors in 2008. This incredible black velvet ballgown with three underskirts is a stunning example of a couture product.
