Burberry's iconic trench coat became popular amongst officers serving in the trenches of the First World War (1914-18). In 1919 HM King George V granted Burberry its first Royal Warrant as a Tailor. Empire Day, was an event celebrated on 24th May, Queen Victoria's birthday. In 1919 on that day, choristers and military bands celebrated in Hyde Park with King George V and Queen Mary.  Meanwhile "Miss Tripp" was purchasing a Burberry coat from the London store in Haymarket, London. SW1.

Description: Original Burberry Haymarket SW1 1919 Receipt. Dated 24th May 1919, to Miss Tripp, who purchased a "Burberry" for the sum of £55. It carries the one penny stamp, duty to be paid on all receipts issued for two pounds or upwards, from 1st January 1892 until abolished on 1st February 1971. Framed. Dimensions: 28cm x 21cm. Framed size: 42cm x 34cm. There has been a vertical fold but paper now protected behind glass. Vintage item. Condition reflected in images. One very small nick in frame.
